Stray bullet hits Kannapolis woman

KANNAPOLIS ó Johnie Charles Thompson, 24, of 1326 Turfwood Drive has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon after a bullet fired from his weapon hit a woman in a neighboring mobile home.
The incident occurred Friday night in a mobile home park off North Main Street.
Kannapolis police also charged Thompson with violation of a city ordinance ó discharging a weapon in the city limits.
Thompson fired the weapon in his residence.
A woman in a nearby mobile home, Kimberly Michelle Stirewalt, was hit in the upper leg and was taken to an area hospital.
According the warrant, the weapon is identified as a Kel-Tec .223 pistol.
An online gun store describes the weapon as a semi-automatic pistol with a length of 18.5 inches with a 10-round magazine, ideal for target shooting and hunting.
