The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) department at Rowan Regional Medical Center recently earned reaccreditation from the American College of Radiology.
The reaccreditation will be in effect from January of this year through April 5, 2012. It was awarded based on the achievement of high practice standards set by the American College of Radiology. It is a voluntary process, with evaluations conducted by a team of physicians who are members of the American College of Radiology and specialists in ultrasound and MRI.
The surveyors assess the quality of the work being performed, and the qualifications of the personnel involved.
“We are extremely proud of our staff in the MRI department and their recent accreditation,” said Jeff Lindsay, president and chief executive officer at Rowan Regional Medical Center. “American College of Radiology accreditation provides a high level of confidence for our patients, referring physicians and managed care organizations and ensures them that only the highest quality care is being provided by our facility.”
An MRI is an imaging procedure, but it utilizes a magnetic field, radio waves and computers to look inside the body and create images of the brain, spine and other areas.
In addition to Rowan Regional’s MRI departments, the medical center’s ultrasound and mammography departments also have accreditation from the American College of Radiology.
The American College of Radiology is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health-care services.
