Staff report
The cause of a Monday night mobile home fire on Tammy Road, just outside Salisbury, remains undetermined, fire officials say.
Fire engulfed the mobile home, which was unoccupied, just after 6:30 p.m. Rowan County Fire Marshal Tom Murphy said he responded to the call.
“It is undetermined at this time,” he said Tuesday night.
Property owner Bernice R. Stanley of Mocksville said she had been moving furniture to the trailer, which has been a rental property. No one was injured.
In other fire news:
– A Feb. 10 fire at a home at 1179 Grist Mill Run was caused by an apparent electrical problem in the family’s bonus room above the garage.
The couple who own the home, Jane and John Bulla, were home at the time of the fire, along with their daughter, Janie, and wheelchair-bound grandmother, 93-year-old Alice Bulla.
“The family said they had experienced some electrical issues with the garage overhead,” Murphy said.
The fire occurred just before 2 a.m. It destroyed their home and belongings. No one was injured.
– A China Grove Middle School mobile unit caught fire at 7:17 a.m. Friday before school started.
Murphy said the fire originated in a heating/air conditioning unit, according to fire officials at the scene.
Most of the damage was to the inside of the unit. A custodian noticed the smoke and called 911. No one was injured.
– A barn fire at 595 Hildebrand Road occurred at 11 p.m. Wednesday. That fire’s cause also is undetermined.
Murphy said the structure is a pole barn, with metal poles that hold up a roof. It has no walls and is used to store hay.
He said it appeared the hay had been there for some time.
Although earlier reports indicated a house caught fire also, Murphy said only the barn burned; no other structures were involved.
“It’s surrounded by woods,” he said.
Officials think it’s possible the structure was used by someone hunting deer or cutting trees in the area. Officials could not determine whether the fire was intentionally set or accidental.
Hildebrand Road runs between U.S. 70 and N.C. 801 near Barber Junction.
