Authorities are investigating the death of a 2-month-old who was found unresponsive in a local motel this weekend. The infant’s mother is being charged with drug possession.
Salisbury Police say Latoyia Niccole Myers, 24, of 617 Linn Lane, Salisbury, called 911 Saturday morning shortly after 9 a.m. from the Happy Travelers Inn, 1420 E. Innes St.
Her 2-month-old son was not responsive. Fire and EMS officials arrived, but the infant was already dead.
Officials took pictures of the room and found two plastic bags, one containing crack cocaine and the other marijuana.
Myers was charged with drug possession. The infant was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Charlotte for an autopsy. Results are not available at this time.
Myers was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under $2,500 bond. She has since been released from jail.
The Salisbury Police are investigating.
