Bulldozer burns at county landfill
A county-owned bulldozer used at the Rowan County Landfill on Campbell Road was destroyed by fire Tuesday night.
Woodleaf firefighters responded to a reported fire at the landfill around 8:30 p.m. and found the dozer burning.
Tony Hilton, risk manager for the county, said the 1997 Caterpillar 963 model was valued at $10,500.
The bulldozer was scheduled for replacement this year.
An investigator with the fire marshal’s office determined faulty electrical wiring caused the fire.
The fire was totally contained within the equipment.
