Staff report
The Rowan County Planning Board will welcome four new members and honor four outgoing members Monday night.
The board will also elect a chairman and vice chairman. Currently Terry Hill serves as chairman and Mac Butner is vice chairman.
New members joining the board include: Jack Fisher, Steve Poteat, Rod Whedbee and Larry Wright.
They will replace Carl Ford, Ed Hammill, Barbara Lomax and Donna Poteat.
Ford resigned after being elected to the Rowan County Board of Commissioners.
Board members continuing to serve include: Mike Caskey, Melanie Earle, Gregg Edds, and John Linker.
The newly constituted board will hear a request from Andrew Frick, owner of Blandy Hardwoods, to modify two of the conditions previously put on a conditional use permit approved roved by the county in June 2005.
The lumber processing facility is located at 735 Ginn Road, Gold Hill.
One of the conditions specified that the dry kilns and planner had to be 500 feet from the property line.
Planners note that due to the configuration of the property, the 500 foot separation requirement can’t be met.
The applicant is also seeking a change in the requirement for paving to the proposed dry kiln.
The initial permit application due opposition from neighbors due concern over noise.
The Rowan County Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. in the Cohen Administrative Office Building, 130 W. Innes St.
