Two house fires in Kannapolis

KANNAPOLIS ó The Kannapolis Fire Department responded to two structure fires in less than an hour Sunday afternoon.
At 12:21 p.m., firefighters responded to a call at 122 Wayne Ave. They found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home.
Firefighters quickly made access into the home and extinguished the blaze, a Fire Department press release said.
Five residents were home at the time of the fire. All escaped safely.
At 1:16 p.m., firefighters were called to 204 Rice St., where they found smoke and flames coming from the house.
They extinguished the fire in the kitchen of the house.
One resident was home at the time of the fire but made it out safely, the press release said.
Landis, Odell, Coldwater and Enochville Fire Departments assisted Kannapolis at both fires.
The cause of both fires remained under investigation Monday.
