For decades after World War II, Otie Cook jotted down notes about his experiences as a tank commander who was part of the Normandy invasion force at Omaha Beach.
This past year, he decided to collect his notes and thoughts and put them in a narrative form ó a small memoir that he hopes can be a legacy for his children and grandchildren.
Cook sometimes had a different take on the war than most veterans.
The constant battle pressures until the German surrender led Cook to seek treatment for his shattered nerves once he returned home. He says while many men received Purple Hearts for their physical wounds in the war, just as many men dealt with inward injuries the rest of their lives.
