Amateur radio test set for Saturday
Published 12:00 am Wednesday, December 2, 2009
Rowan County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) will be conducting an annual Simulated Emergency Test (SET) Saturday.
The purpose is to familiarize amateur radio operators with procedures used when they are called upon to provide emergency communications when normal communications fail.
Amateur Radio Operators have been involved with providing emergency communications for decades during hurricanes, ice storms, floods and other disasters.
Communications are provided for such served agencies as the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, local, state and federal agencies, as well as others.
Across North Carolina, Amateur Radio operators also provide communications for civic events, foot and bicycle races, and other events where communications are needed.
Details about the event, questions or comments may be addressed via Rowan County’s ARES Web site at www.rowancares.org.
