The LandTrust for Central North Carolina will celebrate the holiday season at its seventh annual Tree Trimming Ceremony, held at Centennial Park in the Fulton Heights neighborhood at the corner of Wiley and Stanley streets from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6. All children and their families are invited to hang environmentally friendly ornaments which can be eaten by wildlife during the cold winter months. The event is free and open to the public.
The LandTrust also will sponsor an ornament-making party at the Green Goat Gallery, 516 S. Salisbury Avenue in Spencer, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5. Children will make environmentally friendly ornaments to hang at the ceremony at Centennial Park or in their own yards. Treats will be served. This event is also free and open to all ages.
“The LandTrust’s annual tree trimming party and ornament making party is a wonderful way to celebrate the gift of nature during the holiday season,” says Jason Walser, executive director at The LandTrust. “Over the past six years, this event has become a favorite for many of our supporters and their families.”
Walser notes The LandTrust made a $10,000 donation toward the creation of Centennial Park, which is owned and maintained by the city of Salisbury. In 2008, the LandTrust sponsored the planting of a Norway spruce in the park.
“We are excited to return to the park this year to decorate the spruce and chart its growth,” says Walser. “I want to express the LandTrust’s gratitude to the neighbors of Fulton Heights, who helped organize this event, and the Green Goat Gallery in Spencer for hosting us on Saturday.”
