RALEIGH ó The N.C. Department of Transportation is preparing for heavy traffic congestion anticipated along interstates 85 and 95 from now until Friday, Jan. 23 due to activities surrounding the 56th Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C.
In an effort to decrease congestion, the department will suspend work on major construction projects on I-85 North and I-95 North from today until Tuesday. Work will be suspended on I-85 South and I-95 South from Wednesday until Friday.
NCDOT will be using message signs to inform motorists of heavy traffic conditions expected.
While in route, motorists can dial 511, North Carolina’s toll-free travel system, to obtain real-time information.
NCDOT reminds motorists to stay alert, travel at non-peak times and use alternate routes, when possible.
Plan ahead before driving by visiting the NCDOT Traveler Information Management System Web site www.ncdot.gov/traffictravel or calling 511.
