Education briefs: North Hills offers priority enrollment, open houses

Enrollment for new families for the 2009-2010 school year at North Hills Christian School (NHCS) has begun.
New families may apply for available spaces during a special “priority enrollment” period reserved for new families who apply before Jan. 21.
Priority enrollment will be held from Jan. 22-28. Open enrollment for all applicants begins Jan. 29, 2009.

Three open houses are scheduled for February; Wednesday, Feb. 4, 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 5 , 5-7 p.m.; and Friday, Feb. 6, 9 a.m.-11 a.m.
NHCS is an independent, non-denominational college preparatory, co-ed evangelical Christian day school.
The school offers Advanced Placement and honors classes, Bible classes, weekly chapel, computer instruction, dual enrollment courses, a full athletic program, fine arts, a community service program, a variety of student activities, and Spanish, Chinese, and Latin.
Mars Hill dean’s list
The following Mars Hill College students from this area were named to the dean’s list, earning a grade-point average of 3.5 on a minimum of 12 semester hours, and carry no grade below a C.

Erica St. Lawrence graduates from UNC
Erica June St. Lawrence is a December 2008 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. degree in history.
While at UNC, St. Lawrence was involved with Company Carolina, a drama group. She was an intern giving guided tours at the Historic Stagville Plantation in Durham. In 2008, she was elected president of the Chapel Hill Chapter of Mu Beta Psi coed music fraternity.
A dean’s list student, she was a 2005 honor graduate of Salisbury High School, an AP Scholar with honors, a recipient of the United Way Service Above Self Award and the Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Female Student and a 2005 recipient of the Bechtel Global Scholarship.
She plans to attend graduate school to pursue a degree in public history.
