Students win Hefner VA’s MLK essay contest

The Chaplain Service Office at the W.G. “Bill” Hefner Medical Center sponsored an essay contest in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.
Topics for the essays were given to students at three grade levels. For elementary grades, the topic was “Keeping the Dream Alive”; for middle school, “A Dream Come True” (300-500 words); and for high school, “40 Years รณ How Much of His Dream Has Been Realized.” (500-1,000 words).
Eight students were recognized for their essays at an awards program Monday in the chapel, Building 19 at the VA Medical Center. Included were Bostian Elementary, first place, Allison Baxter; second, Syndey Smith; Faith Elementary, third place, Thomas Spangle; China Grove Middle, first place, Amber Allman; second place, Sarah Crowley, third place, Alex Reid; Knox Middle School, third place, Vashti Usry.
