A little bit of change is coming to downtown Salisbury.

Zinc, the boutique at 314 Depot Street, will close Dec. 30, and Carolina Lily will move into the same location next year.

“I’m moving on,” Wendy Beeker, Zinc’s owner, said. She announced the news on the shop’s Facebook page Tuesday.

Beeker said she’s ready to do something different. She said business has been good and it’s been a fun time.

Zinc, which sells vintage decor, fair-trade jewelry and other items, opened at its current location in January 2013.

Starting in March, Beeker said she will have weekend sales once a month at her home in the country. She said she will also be doing interior painting and visiting plenty of antique shows.

Beeker said her customers can continue to follow her on Zinc’s Facebook page.

She also expressed her gratitude to her landlord, Bud Mickle, who she said was a big reason why Zinc was able to be successful.

For 15 years, Carolina Lily has been located at 1375 Kern Carlton Road, which is off of Long Ferry Road east of Salisbury. It’s a gift shop that also hosts specialty luncheons, baby and bridal showers and other events on its three-acre garden.

Its owner, Julie Apone, said she’d been looking to make a move, and that Beeker got in touch with her and suggested the Depot Street location.

“Who could turn down a place downtown with its own parking lot?” Apone said, adding she plans to make a portion of the parking lot into an urban garden.

Carolina Lily is normally closed in January, and during the month inventory will be moved to the Depot Street location. Apone said plans are to open downtown sometime in February.

Carolina Lily has five employees.

Apone said she plans to partner with other businesses nearby and give South Main Street “a run for their money” when it comes to being the most popular downtown area.

She said she also wants to start a jewelry bar where people can make their own jewelry.

Apone said she’s excited about the move and will make more announcements about her plans in the future.
