Salisbury-Rowan Sports HOF: No inductees for 2020

Press release
The Salisbury-Rowan Sports Hall of Fame will not induct a class in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City of Salisbury’s Parks and Recreation Department announced.
Due to the state of North Carolina’s restrictions on meetings of large groups, the 14-member Hall of Fame committee has not been able to meet. Those restrictions made the selection process difficult as the meetings normally begin in March and continue into June.
The annual ceremony to induct a new class is usually held in early August at the Salisbury Civic Center, but with rules on large indoor gatherings still in limbo for August a decision was made to cancel for 2020.
“It’s unfortunate, but our situation is no different from other traditions and ceremonies which have been put on hold for this year,” said committee co-chairman Dennis Davidson. “The induction ceremony is a special and crowning moment for those selected and we want it to be special for the new Hall of Famers — with family and friends in attendance. We will just look forward to a grand event in 2021.”
Nomination forms will be accepted until April 2021 and can be found on the City of Salisbury Parks and Recreation website at www.salisburync.gov/pkrec. For further information contact Steve Clark at 704-628-5286 or email at sclar@salisburync.gov
