June 15 is annually one of the key dates for college basketball recruiting, as it’s the first day on which the NCAA allows coaches to directly contact rising juniors.

Before June 15, college coaches had to travel an indirect path, informing coaches they would like for an athlete to call them or communicate with them via social media.

North Rowan’s 6-foot-10, 235-pound Brandon White and North head boys basketball coach Jason Causby fielded a lot of phone calls on Monday, June 15.

White, who is agile as well as tall, was offered by Western Kentucky and Virginia Tech back in March.

A lot more doors opened or at least potentially opened for him on Monday. White is considered one of the state’s top prospects in the Class of 2022 and his stock is rising.

There will be a lot more phone calls and texts in the days ahead.

Via social media, White acknowledged he received offers Monday from Houston, Ole Miss, Wake Forest and East Carolina. Recruiting web sites also list Charlotte as a school that has offered.

White was contacted by many more schools that expressed interest. Clemson, N.C. State and Pitt are among the schools on that list.

Recruiting has been altered some this year due to the coronavirus. Normally, coaches scout spring and summer AAU showcases and games. Those events didn’t take place, so there were no in-person evaluations.

UNC has offered two members of the class of 2022 and contacted many more on Monday.

Duke contacted more recruits than usual, but didn’t make any offers.
