SALISBURY — A pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a van around 8 p.m. Tuesday after the man darted into the street, police said.
The pedestrian was running across West Innes Street near Sam’s Car Wash in the dark when he was hit, Salisbury Police Lt. J.I. Lanier said. Lanier said he did not want to identify the man until his family was notified.
The man was alert, talking and being treated inside an ambulance on the scene at 8:15 p.m. He had multiple injuries, Lanier said, including a compound fracture of his right leg and head injuries.
The driver of the van stopped after the collision and was cooperating with police at the scene. Lanier said it was too early to say for sure, but he did not think the driver would face charges.
The pedestrian crossed the street in the middle of the block and was wearing dark clothing, Lanier said. The driver did not see the man, he said.
