West Rowan High School’s Future Business Leaders of America club hosted its 2013 American Enterprise Day at the school Friday.
This event was meant to educate students about the free enterprise system and introduce them to the world of business. The free enterprise system is an economic structure that imposes few restrictions on business activities and ownership decisions.
This is a very important concept for students in the club and students interested in business to grasp because it pertains directly to their possible futures as business leaders.
Several local business owners showcased their businesses at West Rowan to educate students on free enterprise. Each business owner spoke to West Rowan students about the experiences, challenges and accomplishments they have faced throughout their career.
“Students these days are expected to know what they want to be in high school,” said Angela Osborne, an agent with Keller Williams Realty. “This event will expose them to the business world, and I think that is great.”
Many topics such as managing a business, financing business activities, and starting a new business were also featured at this event. Students were able to ask real business leaders questions in order to understand the hard work and dedication it takes to run your own business.
“The best part of this event is that we are all getting insight into the real world of business,” said Alexis Kemp, president of the West Rowan Future Business Leaders chapter.
The speakers were able to give students first-hand explanations of their business triumphs and downfalls. Students were eager to participate in the event and to talk to the speakers about their unique interests in business.
“With Career Technical Education classes, students are given the opportunity to discover their interests by attending events such as this,” said club adviser Gail Funderburke.
