South Rowan’s boys got a career-best 22 points from Christian Holbrook and rolled 67-55 at Central Davidson on Monday.
“He played a good all-round game and he played different positions,” South coach Bryan Withers said. “It was his night, and that’s what makes a good team, different people doing it on different nights.”
The Raiders (2-0) got 10 points each from Tireek Wilder and Lavon Hill.
“I always look forward to playing Central Davidson because they’re physical and they’re disciplined,” Withers said. “We had some key guys in foul trouble, but we still won, and that’s a good sign.”
John Hanes scored 17 for Central, and Jordan Lackey had 15.

South Rowan’s girls had one of the better defensive performances in school history in a 43-20 win at Central Davidson on Monday.
The school record at South for fewest points allowed in a game is 12. It was set against North Rowan in 1963-64.
“We played very disciplined defense in the second half and we boxed out well and turned up our rebounding,” South coach Jarrod Smith said.
South led 16-12 at halftime.
Central played a diamond-and-one defense against South’s Avery Locklear and held her to 14 points.
South beat that defense with the play of Lynsey Corriher at the high post and the 3-point shooting of Cassidy Chipman.
Smith praised Beth Ann Martin for her defensive game.
South won without Caroline Hubbard, who is out for the season with a broken collarbone.

Frank Adams III of Salisbury has advanced to the third and final stage of the Web.com Qualifying Tournament after finishing in a tie for eighth place in a field of 77 in the second stage at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla.
Adams, a native of Laurinburg and a member of the Country Club of Salisbury, has reached the second stage of Q-School five times but had never reached the final stage until an 11-under-par 68-70-67-72 — 277 at Southern Hills last week.
The former East Carolina star and leading money winner on the 2013 eGolf Tour is guaranteed at least conditional status on the 2014 Web.com Tour, which is the only pathway to the PGA Tour.
The final stage will be held Dec. 12-17 at the PGA West Stadium Course in La Quinta, Calif.
Salisbury’s Bobby Cardelle and Emmy Turcios and Carson’s Brandon Flores were named All-State by the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association.
Salisbury’s Matt Parrish was named coach of the year for the state’s 2A public schools.
Parrish (2A) and Carson’s Jason Buckwalter (3A) were named regional coaches of the year.
A host of local players earned all-regional accolades including Salisbury’s Cardelle, Turcios and Zack Sukkasem; Carson’s Flores, Sam Cooley, Colton Correll, Ivan Hernandez, Garrett Owens and Pedro Perez; South Rowan’s Tony Ramirez and Angel Dominguez; West Rowan’s Zack Sheppard; East Rowan’s Charles Goff; A.L. Brown’s Marco Gonzalez and Jalen Jackson, and Davie’s Clayton McKenzie and Alexis Hernandez.
East Rowan placed third in Saturday’s 16-team Rumble at the Ridge hosted by Marvin Ridge. East scored 139 points. Marvin Ridge had 181.5 to win the event.
East’s Wyatt Blume (152) and Shiheem Saunders (182) won their weight classes. Daniel Muncy was runner-up at 160.Sam Cornacchione placed third at 106. Logan Haas was fourth at 120.

The Saleeby-Fisher YMCA, East Rowan Branch, is registering players for a boys basketball league that has weekday games and practices.
This league teaches basketball skills and fundamentals along with YMCA core values.
The league is for grades 2-8 (ages 7 to 14).

Sacred Heart’s varsity boys defeated Forsyth Country Day 50-42 in Winston Salem.
The Dolphins were led by Will Taylor with 19 points and Michael Childress with 14 points. Forward Eric Turnbull added eight points and Jack Fisher finished with seven points and 11 rebounds. Keegan Dillion, Henry Holman, and Melvin Bonilla sparked the defense.
Catawba announced the signing of women’s tennis player Kristen Rocko of Johns Creek, Ga.

Catawba Valley Community College lost to Grand Rapids CC (Mich.) in the national tournament.

Catawba’s softball team will hold a skills clinic on Monday, Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Day.
The clinic will be held at Catawba’s Whitley Field. The camp will run from 10 to 4 with an hour break for lunch at noon. Lunch is provided.
The cost of the clinic is $100. Sign-ups will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 20.

Allison Legacy Race Series
Justin LaDuke is the ALRS Champion for 2013 after winning 10 races and earning six poles.
He began driving Go Karts at the age of 8 with much success, moved on to Mini Cup, and then joined the ALRS in 2010.
Tracks where he has won races include Hickory Motor Speedway, Orange County Speedway, Motormile, Dillon Motor Speedway and Southern National. He has been a hard charger and fierce competitor. He set his sights on the championship and achieved it with hard work and determination.
An honor student and graduate of Tarboro High, the Rocky Mount, NC native also received the Alan Kulwicki Memorial Scholarship to UNC. After graduating, LaDuke would like to work in the motorsports industry as an engineer or crew chief.
