Lee Street Theatre has been chosen to receive the 2013 Community Theatre Award from the North Carolina Theatre Conference.

“Lee Street Theatre’s successful execution of their $1.5 million capital campaign, extraordinary artistic quality and inclusion of other theatre groups in their space makes them a tremendous recipient of this award,” Angie Hays, NCTC’s executive director, said in a press release. “Catawba College graduate Justin Dionne serves as managing artistic director, and has focused significant time and effort in leading the theatre to be a critical part of the revitalization of downtown Salisbury. With Dionne’s strong leadership, and support from the Board of Directors, it’s no surprise that Lee Street Theatre is receiving this honor in their sixth year of operating”

Each year, the NCTC Board of Directors presents the awards to companies, schools and individuals that have exhibited leadership roles in their community, as well as artistic, professional or educational excellence.

The Board of Directors is a group of statewide volunteers who represent the theatre community and serve on behalf of some of the state’s most prominent organizations and schools.

Lee Street Theatre will be presented with the award Friday, Dec. 6, at a special presentation preceding the opening night performance of OrnaMENTAL, a play by local Salisbury playwright and author, Jenny Hubbard.

The board and staff at Lee Street Theatre would like to extend gratitude and congratulations to all of the supporters who have helped to make this now award-winning company what it is today.
