A man was killed in a collision in the 1500 block of Statesville Boulevard this morning,

Marcus Washington, 33, of Salisbury was westbound on Statesville Boulevard near McCoy Road when he crossed the centerline about 6:30 a.m., Salisbury Police said. His Toyota Corolla collided with a Ford SUV driven by Bobbie Garland, 29, of Statesville.

Garland, a nurse at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, was taken to the hospital. The extent of her injuries was not immediately known, police said.

Investigators say Washington appears to have been speeding. Garland was traveling at 45 mph, the speed limit in that area.
