Pistol Pop’s, Salisbury’s newest gun store, has opened at 3018 S. Main St., which originally housed Pistol Pete’s Firearms.
When the former operator decided to sell, Tim and Pam Ervin, along with son Adam Ervin, saw the business as an opportunity to diversify.
Tim and Pam also operate Faith Farm & Equipment Sales on Interstate 85. After 14 years of owning and operating Ervin Cycle, specializing in V-twin motorcycles, Adam also was ready for a change.
The store is fully stocked with shotguns, rifles and more than 200 handguns. Brands include Glock, Ruger, Colt, Remington, Springfield, Smith and Wesson and more. Accessories include regular and specialty ammo, holsters, grips and cleaning supplies. In addition to competitive pricing on the more standard guns, there are unusual items like a new, modern day “Tommy Gun.” The store will also handle online transfers for customers who need to have their purchases sent to a licensed dealer.
Tim credits former owner Michael Turman for the refinements and décor of the shop.
“Mike started from scratch and created one of the nicest, cleanest, friendliest gun shops anywhere, and we intend to continue that tradition,” Tim said.
Pistol Pop’s is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Jack Rockstad of New York has joined Imperial Brown as vice president of manufacturing for the East Coast Division.
Imperial Brown has manufacturing facilities in Portland, Ore., and Salisbury. The company was created in April 2012 with the merger of the century-old W.A. Brown & Sons of Salisbury and Imperial Manufacturing of Portland.
Rockstad will oversee manufacturing at the East Coast plant in Salisbury. He and his family will move to North Carolina. Rockstad most recently has worked in the aerospace industry for almost 25 years and also has extensive experience in operations, general management, environmental, plant layout, maintenance, electronics and repair. 
Rick Schermerhorn, president of Imperial Brown, said Rockstad will lead efforts to standardize the two facilities. 
“I’m a strong believer in people and teamwork,” Rockstad said. “I bring diversity and experience. I’m fortunate to be in a position to teach, lead and help employees.”
As a dual role as the North American Environmental Coordinator for Smiths Aerospace, headquartered in London, Rockstad was responsible for training and implementing ISO-14001 in over 40 facilities in the U.S., Canada, China, Poland, Germany, the U.K. and Mexico. He also was responsible for more than 400 employees and the shipment of $160 million per year in sales. Smiths is a manufacturer of engine components for military and civil gas turbine engines.
Rockstad traveled extensively for Smiths, handling assignments in Europe and Asia and overseeing the construction, operation and training of a new facility in China. He has a master’s degree in organizational change and behavior from American Intercontinental University. He continues to serve on the advisory panel of the Performance Review Institute, an affiliate of Standard Automotive Engineering, for the past nine years and previously served on U.S. Technical Advisory Group for five years, a group of delegates and experts who represent the U.S. position on environmental affairs related to the International standard. 

Novant Health has promoted a veteran from North Carolina to become president of northern Virginia’s first new hospital in 17 years.
Donald Sedgley, currently director of operations at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury, will take over the Novant Health Haymarket Medical Center when it opens early next year. Sedgley has worked for Novant since 2006.
Haymarket, a 60-bed, $100 million facility being built just off Interstate 66, will be northern Virginia’s first new hospital since Loudoun Healthcare’s Lansdowne hospital in 1997.
Novant plans to transfer some patient bed capacity from its current hospital in Manassas, Va..
Winston-Salem-based Novant first came to the Washington area when it acquired Prince William Hospital in 2009, and is counting on its new hospital to play a key role in the battle for new patients.

He is a graduate of South Rowan High School and N.C. State University. He completed his residency at the Salisbury VA Medical Center, where he specialized in practicing full scope primary care optometry, including the diagnosis and management of a variety of ocular diseases.

It covered leveraging aided speech audibility verification in the programming of hearing aids, fitting, counseling and rehabilitation.
Only 20 percent of hearing health-care professionals use any type of verification measure, so effective long-term hearing aid treatment must become a process rather than an event, Oden said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Bi-Lo Holdings said it will convert the Sweetbay and Reid’s stores it is acquiring from Delhaize to the Winn-Dixie and Bi-Lo banners.
It said it plans to retain the Harveys banner on “the majority” of those stores, located primarily in Georgia, although a few could be converted to either Bi-Lo or Winn-Dixie. Conversion of the banner names is anticipated to begin in the first quarter of 2014.
Bi-Lo Holdings — which recently filed for an initial public offering — said the transition of banners is planned “to reduce overlapping footprints,” noting there was little overlap between Harvey’s, Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie.
The conversion of Sweetbay to Winn-Dixie will end Delhaize’s nine-year effort to create a new supermarket banner in Florida, where it began converting its Kash n’ Karry chain to Sweetbay in 2004.
Bi-Lo also said it planned to retain all of the employees at the stores when the acquisition is complete.
“Sweetbay, Harveys and Reid’s have outstanding reputations, and their talented teams of associates have played a key role in making these stores an important part of the communities they serve,” said Randall Onstead, president and chief executive officer of Bi-Lo Holdings. “We are pleased to soon welcome the outstanding associates of all three chains to the Bi-Lo Holdings family.”
Bi-Lo Holdings reached an agreement in May to acquire the 155 stores under the Sweetbay, Harveys and Reid’s banners from Delhaize. The transaction is anticipated to close in the first quarter of 2014, pending antitrust review.
LEXINGTON — Brinkley Walser managing member David Inabinett welcomed two new staff members to the team. Beth Broom was hired as a legal assistant and Tracy Fox Phillips as a paralegal.
“Tracy was hired as an intern earlier this year and did such a good job that we brought her on full-time; and Beth had done some quality freelance legal work for us several years ago, so we were lucky to get her on board with the firm, as well,” said Karen Greene, business manager for the firm.
Broom is the legal assistant to attorney R.B. Smith, Jr., while Phillips is a real estate paralegal.
