The Rowan Rotary is offering runners and walkers the chance to take part in the Spooky Sprint 5K on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 27, at Catawba College.
Start time for the 5K is 2 p.m. and the half-mile fun run will be held after the 5K at about 2:45 p.m. All participants are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and celebrate afterwards by competing for prizes awarded by crowd approval. Adult and children runners and walkers in costumes may enter.
“Dri-fit long sleeve shirts, collapsible water bottles, Filltech lip balm and backpacks will go to the first 250 entrants,” race director Jim Duncan said. “We want to emphasize that this is a family event. We want families to come out and sign up and participate or come out to cheer on family runners and walkers.”
Spooky Sprint will benefit such Rowan Rotary projects as Service Above Self, Broyhill Leadership and the North Rowan backpack program.
A $50 cash prize will go to the male and female overall winners. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in 14 age groups for both males and females. Special awards will go to masters runners (age 40 and over), grandmasters runners (age 50 and over) and senior grandmasters runners (age 60 and over). Refreshments will be available after the races for all participants.
Online registration is available at www.sportoften.com and a printable race brochure and more information are at www.salisburyrowanrunners.org.
