A forum about end-of-life health care decisions and planning will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Crystal Lounge on the Catawba College Campus.
“Conversations Today or Crisis Tomorrow: Planning Ahead for Life’s Final Journey” will include talks from keynote speakers and panel discussions aimed at anyone needing to know how to begin conversations about end-of-life care issues.
Presenting sponsors are Rowan Hospice & Palliative Care, Novant Health and BeginTheConversation.org.
The event is open to the health care, retirement and assisted living communities as well as the general public. Nurses can earn 5.3 credit hours.
Health care, faith and counseling professionals will discuss the importance of being able to know and honor end-of-life wishes through conversations and using documents such as a health care power of attorney and a living will document. The interactive event will offer insight on how to begin such conversations before a crisis arises.
There is no charge to attend and a free continental breakfast and lunch will be served.
Upon completing the program, participants should be able to:
• Understand the importance of having conversations before a crisis.
• Be comfortable talking to their family and physicians about end-of-life care wishes.
• Know how to document those wishes.
