Salisbury City Council candidate forum is Oct. 29

Candidates for Salisbury City Council will take part in a forum at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the Peeler Crystal Lounge at the Robertson College Community Center on the campus of Catawba College, 2220 W. Innes St.
The forum is sponsored by the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, Catawba College and the Salisbury Post. Its purpose is to educate voters about the candidates and their stands on issues of importance to the business community. The event is free and open to the public.
Moderator Dr. Michael Bitzer of Catawba College will ask the candidates questions submitted to the Salisbury Post. Send questions to be considered to editor@salisburypost.com.
All candidates for City Council were invited to the forum. The Candidates that have confirmed their attendance are incumbents Karen Alexander, Maggie Blackwell, Pete Kennedy, Brian Miller and Paul Woodson, and challengers Kenneth Blake Jarman and William Peoples Jr.
The Chamber of Commerce holds annual candidate Forums through the guidance of the chamber’s Government Affairs Committee, which is chaired by Greg Edds of State Farm Insurance. The objective of the committee is to enhance communication and discussion with local, federal and state governments on important issues relating to Rowan County, its municipalities, businesses and citizens. The committee is open to chamber members.
The committee reviews relevant local, state and national issues and makes policy recommendations to the board of directors. Particular areas of interest include business advocacy issues, community and economic development, land-use, infrastructure and transportation systems.
