SALISBURY — Deputies charged a 16-year-old East Rowan High School student with a felony after officers said the teenager called in a bomb threat at the school Wednesday morning.
Jeremiah Jermaine Fincher, of Crescent Road, is charged with felony false report of mass violence at an education property and misdemeanor misuse of 911.
The school evacuated shortly after 7:30 a.m.
A phone message to parents from Rowan-Salisbury School System spokeswoman Rita Foil said staff and students gathered in the stadium after the threat was received.
School officials worked with local law enforcement and emergency officials before sending students back to class.
Investigators said the caller told a 911 communicator he placed bombs around the St. Lukes Church Road school and made vulgar comments before hanging up.
A bomb-sniffing dog was on hand along with other emergency personnel, but no explosive devices were found during the search.
