MORRISVILLE (AP) — The Rev. Mark Harris says his North Carolina U.S. Senate race is about unseating Democrat Kay Hagan next year, but he’ll also make clear his differences with fellow Republicans also seeking the GOP nomination.
The Charlotte pastor unveiled his Senate bid Wednesday on a six-stop flyover tour of the state. Harris and three other Republicans have announced their candidacies, including House Speaker Thom Tillis.
Harris wouldn’t give reporters at Raleigh-Durham International Airport specifics about how he differs from Tillis and other GOP candidates, saying the campaign has just started. But earlier he said he brings leadership and financial experience from years in the ministry, as well as empathy for people.
Harris talked about his active involvement in support of a constitutional amendment prohibiting same-sex marriage that passed last year.
