SALISBURY — “Sleepy Hollow” is officially a hit.
After only three episodes, the supernatural Fox TV series that started in Salisbury has been renewed for a second season.
Fox, which is airing 13 episodes of “Sleepy Hollow” this fall including the pilot based in Salisbury, has ordered 13 more episodes for the 2014-15 season.
That makes “Sleepy Hollow” the first new fall show to be renewed.
The pilot for the action-adventure drama, which airs at 9 p.m. Mondays, delivered 13.6 million viewers when including three days of DVR playback, making “Sleepy Hollow” Fox’s most successful drama premiere since “24” opened in 2001.
The show follows Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison), revived after 250 years, and modern-day police lieutenant Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) as they try to save the town of Sleepy Hollow and the world from mysterious evil.
Monday’s third episode drew 8 million viewers and performed well with the young adults prized by advertisers.
Twentieth Century Fox is filming the TV series in Wilmington.
“The show has proven to be a risk well worth taking. It’s a conceptual blast unlike anything else on television and it all holds together with inventive writing and a fantastic cast,” Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly said in a statement accompanying the pickup announcement. “I can’t wait for fans to experience what else is in store for this fall and even more of this wild ride into Season 2.”
