CHINA GROVE — Officials say a child who was injured earlier this week following a fall from a skateboard is well after surgery.
Jayce Overcash, 9, of Ross Street, China Grove, was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem on Wednesday after responders said he tied the family dog to his skateboard in order to be pulled. The incident occurred after 7 p.m.
Someone called Rowan Animal Control thinking the child was injured by the family’s labrador mix, but hospital officials later confirmed the injuries were consistent with a fall, said Animal Control Officer Thomas Staton.
Staton said when an animal control officer arrived on the scene, the child and the parents were already aboard an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
He said the dog was seized as a precaution, but has since been returned to the family.
“He had surgery yesterday. I talked to the dad today and he’s doing great,” Staton said.
Jayce reportedly had a fractured skull and underwent surgery Thursday.
China Grove Police and Rowan EMS also responded to the scene.
