An incumbent alderman from Spencer and a challenger for a Kannapolis city council seat filed for election Wednesday.
Reid Walters, who is up for re-election after a two-year term, joins fellow incumbent Jeff Morris in the race.
Thomas A. VanEtten, of Kannapolis, also put in his bid for the Kannapolis City Council seat.
Nineteen candidates have filed for seats across the county. Candidates are vying for 42 seats up for election this year. Filing continues through noon on July 19.
