Woman dies in head-on collision in Cabarrus

A head-on collision today on Old Salisbury Road in Cabarrus County has claimed a woman’s life.
According to published reports, a witness said a car was on the wrong side of the road shortly before noon. An oncoming car, traveling in the correct direction, swerved to avoid the other car, but could not get out of its path completely.
Reports indicate the woman died at the scene, while the other driver, identified as Jerry Shinn, was transported to Carolina Medical Center=NorthEast. His condition is not known.
Brandy Stewart told authorities she was behind Shinn’s car as he tried to avoid the car coming in the opposite direction and saw both cars swerving.
Traffic was being re-routed from Old Salisbury Road near Camp Julia Road.
The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating. The woman’s name has not been released.
