Last November, authorities charged a Salisbury man accused of assaulting a Caldwell Street teen with a brick, but the suspect was just found Tuesday.
The Salisbury Police charged Alonzo “Booger” Ivery Gibson Jr., 38, of the 20 block of North Arlington Street, with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury related to the November 2012 incident. Officials also served warrants on Gibson for an April incident. A warrant said Gibson cut a victim with a steak knife. He also had a charge of failure to appear in court on an assault on a female charge.
The Novermber 2012 victim, Shakhar Willie Pet Robinson, then 19, was walking with Gibson in the 600 block of Park Avenue when officials said the teen’s uncle walked by in the opposite direction. Gibson is said to have had issues with the uncle, whom law enforcement knows as “Mousey.” A police report said the uncle and Gibson were going to fight, but Gibson said the uncle was “too big to fight.” Robinson told Gibson he didn’t want to fight him because he didn’t have a problem with Gibson.
In an unprovoked attack, Gibson pulled out a brick from his pocket and struck Robinson across the face. Robinson was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for a broken jaw.
Police had been trying to find Gibson since the November arrest, officials said. He was spotted Tuesday at the Rowan County Health Department. He’d been there with someone, got into a car and left. Officers followed the vehicle, stopped the car and Gibson was arrested. In the April incident, an arrest warrant said Gibson used a steak knife to cut James Scott down the right side of his body. Gibson has been convicted of drug possession, resisting arrest, driving while license revoked, obtaining property by false pretenses, habitual felon, possession of a firearm by a felon and larceny.
He has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center under a $11,000 secured bond.
