SALISBURY — A 21-year-old man accused of breaking into a home on Mt. Hope Church Road was found asleep in his car a short time after the incident Tuesday.
Deputies were called to a home on Mt. Hope Church Road after a relative said a suspicious vehicle was parked at a home in the 4900 block.
The relative, James Kluttz, told officers he approached the suspect as he carried a large change jar out of the home.
The suspect told Kluttz, according to the report, that Kluttz’s son, Benny — who lived at the victimized home — owed him money, but Kluttz told the man the jar wasn’t leaving the property.
The man, later identified as Marcus Adam Dipietro, was located asleep in his vehicle in a church parking lot off Old Concord Road shortly after.
Deputies said two syringes and a small wad of plastic with what appeared to be some type of residue inside were found in the passenger seat.
Dipietro told officers he went to Kluttz’s home “because some friends told him that a guy who had robbed them lived there,” an arrest report said.
Deputies said various assorted jewelry was found missing from the home.
Authorities charged Dipietro with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny after breaking and entering.
The report said three rings and a 1975 South Rowan High School class ring were missing from the residence.
Deputies totaled the stolen property at about $3,500.
Dipietro was placed in Rowan County jail under a $5,000 bond.
