CLEVELAND — A Freightliner truck made in Cleveland will star in the new movie “Transformers 4,” due to hit the big screen next summer.
The menacing-looking 2014 Freightliner Argosy cab-over heavy-duty truck — modified from the Argosy the Freightliner plant produces for international markets — joins the ever-growing vehicle fleet in “Transformers 4,” according to movie director Michael Bay’s website.
The over-the-road truck from Daimler Trucks North America, Freightliner’s parent company, will star with a custom-built Western Star, which will serve as the revamped Optimus Prime. Both vehicles are built by Daimler.
The big trucks are part of a rapidly expanding vehicle cast for the movie that now includes a 2013 Pagani Huayra, a 2013 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and a military truck from Oshkosh Defense that will serve as the Autobot character Hound.
“The adventure continues to transform with a very different offering from Daimler Trucks North America,” according to Michael Bay’s website. “The imposing 2014 Argosy cab-over truck by Freightliner.”
The plot of sequel is still top secret.
Daimler can’t disclose specifics about the Argosy character, including details about how and where the truck was modified, according to a company spokesman.
“Transformers 4” is expected to be released on June 27, 2014, according to Paramount. It stars Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, Sophia Myles, Li Bingbing and T.J. Miller.
