Salisbury hosts West Davidson tonight at 7 p.m. in a CCC football makeup game at Ludwig Stadium.
The Hornets are 1-8 overall, while the Green Dragons are 4-5.
Salisbury won against Lexington and is 1-2 in the CCC. West Davidson has lost its three CCC games to Thomasville, North Rowan and Lexington. Graham Shoaf has thrown for 1,372 yards and 12 TDs for the Green Dragons, and Zach Queen has 37 catches for 682 yards and 10 TDs.
Kevin Smith is coming off a huge rushing game against Lexington and has 174 carries for 866 yards and 10 TDs for the season.
West Davidson is 1-3 on the road this season. The Green Dragons won at Trinity.
Salisbury’s defense has played well since CCC play began, especially in a 15-14 loss to Thomasville. QB Riley Myers, running back Tim Rhodes and receiver Jon Mark Petty have led the offense in recent games.
The game is Senior Night for the Hornets and there will also be halftime recognition of state champions.
Top-seeded and top-ranked Salisbury (23-1) will play in the third round of the 2A playoffs on Wednesday at home against No. 9 seed CATA (Central Academy of Technology & Arts). CATA is in Monroe and has a 17-6-2 record, including a 3-1 loss to the Hornets on Sept. 17.
Salisbury, which has 10 seniors, has won 21 in a row since a loss to Statesville on Aug. 26.
CATA has won eight in a row, including playoff blowouts of Franklin and Hunter Huss.
Salisbury senior Bobby Cardelle has been a dynamic scorer and keeps the pressure on opponents, along with Emmy Turcios, Zack Sukkasem and Lucas Capito.
• In the third round of the 3A playoffs on Wednesday, No. 5 seed Carson (17-4) will be at No. 4 seed South Iredell (18-2-2).
Carson has won its last eight matches, including convincing playoff decisions against Hickory and Asheville.
South Iredell plays in a split 3A/4A conference, and its only losses came in October against NPC rivals Statesville and Lake Norman.
The Vikings have gotten back on track in the playoffs with a romp over Eden Morehead and an overtime win against Cuthbertson.
South Iredell is ranked fourth in 3A, while Carson is ranked sixth.
Brandon Flores has been a scoring machine for the Cougars.
Lenoir-Rhyne graduate Reid Shaver, former South Rowan football and basketball standout, will coach the Kannapolis Middle School eighth-grade basketball team this season.
KMS opens the season on Nov. 7 against Winkler.
Southeast’s 8th-graders finished the season with a 40-8 win against Erwin.
Jay Wilkerson scored four touchdowns, two rushing, one passing and one on an interception.
Cole Sifford threw two TD passes for Southeast (5-3).
Garrett Kennedy had two receiving TDs and two extra points.Trevor Timms had a rushing TD.
Robert Lee, James Ruiz, Zain Tucker and Jalen Kemp led the defense.

Catawba’s fourth-seeded women (10-7-1) will host No. 5 Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday in the first round of the SAC tournament.
Semifinals will be played Friday at Rock Hill.
• Catawba’s men are seeded eighth and play at No. 1 Queens in Tuesday’s first round of the SAC tournament.
Catawba was swept by Mars Hill on Saturday to fall to 4-15 overall and 4-13 in the SAC.
Catawba is home this weekend against Carson-Newman on Friday and Lincoln Memorial on Saturday,
Catawba’s women’s team plays an exhibition at High Point tonight at 7 p.m.
Michael Childress won the National Junior Golf Tournament at Statesville Country Club.
Childress shot 70-72 — 142 (2-under) to win his age group and the overall competition by 10 strokes.
In Saturday’s McCanless Couples tournament, Ricky and Treva Honeycutt took first place. Don Goodnight and Sharon Miller finished second.
The season points winner was Mary Seaford. She was followed by Gene Seaford and Ricky Honeycutt.
In Sunday’s Captain’s Choice play, the team of Ricky Honeycutt, Frank Foster and Susan Houston finished first. The team of Bryan Reynolds, Tim Earnhardt, Harry Owens and Phyllis Myers placed second.
