A Salisbury man took police on a short foot chase after they stopped him for drinking an alcoholic beverage in public.
Salisbury Police say an officer approached Perman James Oglesby Jr., 49, as he stood on South Main Street drinking.
When Oglesby asked the officer why he was being stopped, the officer said it was not lawful to consume alcohol on a public street. Oglesby then said “f— this” and took off running toward the Shell gas station beside the Forum Fitness Center. He did not get far. He was stopped just behind the store.
Police charged Oglesby, of the 300 block of S. Caldwell St., with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a controlled substance.
The officer found a drawstring pouch inside Oglesby’s front pocket. Inside the pouch were 22 individually wrapped baggies of marijuana, totaling 26 grams.
He remained in the Rowan County Detention Center today under a $500 secured bond.
He has previously been convicted of larceny, drug possession, driving infractions including driving while impaired, assault, shoplifting and resisting arrest.
