Carson’s soccer team beat South Rowan 7-1 in SPC action on Tuesday.
Colton Correll opened the scoring for the Cougars. Raunel Vasquez scored on a header from a free kick by Garrett Owens. Ricky Maldonado scored on an assist by Correll, and Brandon Flores’ goal gave Carson a 4-1 halftime lead.
Flores got his second goal to start the second half. Pedro Perez scored on a free kick from Owens, and Correll scored the final goal.
Owens, Aaron Lippard, Yobany Perez and Fidel Flores led Carson’s defense. Sam Cooley and Logan Correll handled the midfield.
• In the jayvee game, Braxton Rogers scored three goals to lead Carson to a 4-1 victory. Cole Howard scored the other goal for the Cougars.

Salisbury’s volleyball team won 23-25, 25-17, 25-21 and 25-17 against East Davidson in a CCC match played on Tuesday.
Nyasia Harris had nine kills and eight blocks for the Hornets. Juliana Anderson had seven kills. Mary Seifert served five aces. Abby Lee and Emma Labovitz had five digs each.
• Salisbury’s jayvees won 25-20 and 25-13 vs. the Golden Eagles. Kate Murph had 10 aces. Breya Philpot had three kills, and Lainy Slate had six digs.
• In the SPC, Carson swept Northwest Cabarrus to stay unbeaten. Hickory Ridge beat South Rowan to stay perfect in the SPC. Hickory Ridge is at Carson Thursday.
• South’s jayvees won 2-1 against Hickory Ridge.
• Kannapolis Christ the King won 25-12, 28-26 and 25-16 against North Hills,
North Hills swept the jayvee match.
In a CCC meet at Boone’s Cave Park, West Davidson’s girls won with a score of 21. Salisbury’s score was 70, while North Rowan’s score was 102.
West Davidson’s Callie Wynn won the meet. Salisbury’s Susannah Dixon placed second. Salisbury’s Elle Wimmer was ninth.
•In the boys meet, West Davidson won with a score of 36. Salisbury was second with 41. Salisbury’s David Uto finished second in 20:03. Max Patel (eighth), Matt Washko (ninth), Jeryon Davis (10th) and Sam McNeely (12th) also finished high.
Thomasville’s Enrique Solis won the race in 19:58.
• In the Cookes Invitational at MacAnderson Park in Statesville, top local finishers included Northwest’s Gil Gilreath (fourth, 16:22), Carson’s Zachary Marchinko (seventh, 17:07), East’s Conor Honeycutt (10th, 17:28), A.L. Brown’s Kellen Corson (14th, 17:43) and East’s Cal Meyers (18th, 17:55).
East was fifth. Carson was seventh. A.L. Brown was eighth. NWC was ninth. Davie was 10th.
• Top local finishers in the girls race at MacAnderson included Northwest’s Maddie Lowe (third, 20:00), West’s Rebecca Parker (eighth, 21:09), Northwest’s Kara Dunkle (11th, 21:35), Northwest’s Emma Hand (12th, 21:40), Davie’s Blakely Gantt (15th, 21:58). Brown’s Kelsie Simpson (19th, 22:24) and East’s Faith Blume (21st, 22:30).
Northwest was third, A.L. Brown was seventh, East was eighth, Davie was ninth, and West was 10th.
East Rowan’s girls tennis team stayed unbeaten with an 8-1 SPC win against Carson on Monday.
Lizzie Weaver, Laura Agner, Rebecca Agner, Lauren Thomas and Taylor Trexler were singles winners for the Mustangs (4-0).
Weaver-Laura Agner, Thomas-Rebecca Agner and Drew Pethel-Trexler won in doubles.
•North Rowan’s tennis team won 6-3 against East Davidson in a CCC match played on Monday.
Samantha Pritchard, Victoria Scheve, Alexis Rice and Indya Wiggins won in singles for North. Rice-Wiggins and Scheve-Casey Eller won in doubles.
Sixty-three GARS members played in foursomes at Crescent earlier this week.
Low ‘A’ Flight player with a net of 65.09 was Bobby Clark. Low ‘B’ Flight player with a net of 64.12 was David Adams. Low ‘C’ Flight player with a net of 57.33 was Melvin McGee. Low ‘D’ Flight player with a net of 64.12 was John Goodman.
• The team of Kristi Laton, Bev Cobb, Betsey Edgeworth and Monica Green won the Captain’s Choice event played by the Corbin Hills Women’s Golf Association on Tuesday. Ruth Bowles won closest to the pin on No. 13. Louis Collins won the longest putt on No. 9.
Catawba’s men’s golf team tied for 14th in the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate. Matt Hardman shot 72-71 — 143 and led Catawba with a fifth-place finish.
• Catawba’s women’s golf team finished 14th in the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate. Madison Kennedy (Salisbury) shot 77-79 — 156 and Leslie Long shot 83-73 — 156 to lead Catawba. They tied for 26th.
• In the Terrier Intercollegiate held in Spartanburg, S.C., Appalachian State’s Lily Yatawara shot 75-79 — 154 and finished 14th.
Knox scored twice in the fourth quarter and rallied to beat North Rowan 12-6 in seventh-grade football.
The key play was Isaiah Rankin’s 55-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Key contributors for Knox were running backs Raheim Walker and Ishmael Brown, who both rushed for over 90 yards. Walker scored Knox’s first touchdown.
Omaree Mashore, Marvin Finger, Adam Layman, Blake Clark, Ian Walser, and Rourke Burton blocked well for quarterback Kevin Chawk. Defensive standouts for Knox were Rankin, Raheem Walker, Tyrone Johnson (seven tackles) and Daveon Robinson (sack and forced fumble). Layman and Obryan Mashore had fumble recoveries.
Salisbury’s girls tennis team, ranked No. 1 in 2A, is holding a free youth clinic on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 until noon at the Salisbury High courts.
No experience is necessary to attend. Racquets will be available.
The clinic will focus on fundamentals.
