The big Carson at East Rowan football game on Friday will include a “No Kid Hungry” food drive.
Parents attending the game are asked to bring a non-perishable food item.
Every elementary school in the area has a need and the food collected withh be divided among the feeder schools for East and Carson.
Friday’s Northwest Cabarrus at West Rowan football game is the WSOC game of the week and the 96.1 game of the week.
Howard Platt and Wilson Cherry also will be broadcasting that game on 1490.
The NCHSAA released its “100 male athletes to remember” list on Wednesday as part of its 100th anniversary celebration.
Local athletes honored were A.L. Brown football icons Ethan Horton and Nick Maddox and Landis legend Billy Ray Barnes.
At Wake Forest, Barnes was the first 1,000-yard rusher in the ACC and played third base for Wake’s 1955 national-champion baseball team.
Barnes rushed for 3,421 yards in the NFL and was a key member of the 1960 NFL champion Philadelphia Eagles.
At UNC, Horton was ACC Player of the Year in 1984 and twice rushed for 1,000 yards for the Tar Heels. He caught 212 passes in the NFL.
Maddox was the NCHSAA Male Athlete of the Year for the 1998-99 school year. He rushed for 6,654 yards as a Wonder and scored 114 TDs. He played on Florida State’s 1999 national champions.
Catawba’s men’s soccer team rallied to beat Pfeiffer 2-1 on Wednesday.
Dango Kumwenda scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute.
Nathan Regis scored for the Falcons (2-2-1).
Declan Simpson scored the first goal for the Indians (2-1).
• Catawba’s women’s soccer team won 2-1 against Mount Olive (0-3) on Wednesday at Frock Field.
Emily Auwarter headed in the game-winner with under two minutes left in regulation.
Akex Husley scored the goal for Catawba (2-2-1) that tied the match at 1-all.
North Rowan won 25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 22-25 and 15-6 against East Davidson in CCC volleyball on Tuesday.
• South Rowan won 25-10, 25-19 and 25-19 against East Rowan in SPC volleyball on Tuesday. South (4-4) is in fifth place in the SPC at the halfway point.
Salisbury Academy’s girls won 9-0 against Sacred Heart.
Singles winners were Maria Capito, Ivy Overcash, Annabel Barr, Isabel Temple, Ellen Simons and Anna Louise Lewis.
Doubles winners were Capito-Barr, Overcash-Temple and Simons-Virginia Moy Robinson.
West Rowan Middle led 14-0 at halftime and won 32-0 against Corriher-Lipe on Tuesday.
Robert Caldwell rushed for 78 yards for the Bulldogs (1-1). Anthony Chance rushed for 68 yards and a 2-point conversion. Dwayne Bowers, Cameron Graham and Nick Stolsworth had short TD runs.
Bonds and Jacob Perez had TD receptions.
Other offensive standouts were Mel Matta and Dalton Sheesley.
Bowers, Sheesley, Chance and Jeffrey Garmon stood out on defense. Blanton Butler recovered a fumble.
•Knox won 34-30 in an exciting game with Southeast.
Jaleel Webster had a 67-yard scoring run late in the game. Webster rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns for Knox. Griffin Myers scored a touchdown. Martavio Rankin had a 78-yard scoring run and a 2-point conversion.
Rankin, Ray Mashore, Tyrese Mashore, Xavier Lowe and Laverick Johniken were defensive standouts.
The offensive line was outstanding for Knox. Tyquan Smith and Jordan Jones played well at tight end.

Hurley YMCA Warriors competed in the Dairy Dash 5K in Mount Ulla.
