McKinney to enter Rice HOF

Cristy Earnhardt McKinney will be part of the Rice Athletic Hall of Fame’s Class of 2013.
McKinney will be inducted in ceremonies on Oct. 25 and also will be honored at halftime of Rice’s football game on Oct. 26.
The East Rowan graduate coached Rice’s women’s basketball program from 1994-2005 and had a 216-138 record.
McKinney played college basketball at N.C. State for Kay Yow. She scored 1.359 points and pulled down 600 rebounds for the Wolfpack before graduating in 1979. She was a member of N.C. State’s first ACC regular-season championship team.
In her playing days at East, McKinney was the girls basketball program’s first 1,000-point scorer and teamed with Allison Miller to lead the Mustangs to the 1974 Western North Carolina High School Activities Association championship.
Coached by Jesse Watson, East was 21-4 in 1973-74, and the Mustangs went 24-3 in 1974-75 when McKinney averaged 20.2 points per game and was named All-State.
McKinney finished her prep career with 1,151 points and 1,012 rebounds. She’s still fifth on East’s career scoring list and ranks second to Maggie Rich in points per game.
McKinney was part of the inaugural Salisbury-Rowan Hall of Fame class in 2001.
Her father is Harold Earnhardt of Rockwell. Her mother was the late Mary Helen Brown Earnhardt.
Carson will participate in a four-team jamboree at Wingate on Saturday at 8 a.m.
North Rowan and South Rowan will take part in a 9 a.m. scrimmage at Mooresville.
Davie County will scrimmage at Statesville at 9:15 a.m.
East Rowan is in the North Stanly Jamboree at 10 a.m.
On Saturday night at 6 p.m., A.L. Brown hosts Charlotte Country Day.
West Rowan has a scrimmage at home on Monday night.

The Country Club of Salisbury will host the 60th annual Crowder-Dorsett Memorial 4-Ball Golf Tournament.
Defending champions are Ken Clarke-Chris Owen, Ronnie Eidson-Dennis Andrade (Senior Division) and Allison Dupree Adams-Grace Yatawara.
All residents of Rowan as of Aug. 1, 2013, are eligible, as are all members of the Country Club of Salisbury, all previous tournament players, all members of Rowan County clubs and members of The Club at Irish Creek and Cabarrus Country Club.
Stroke-play qualifying is set for Aug. 23-25. Match play will be on Aug. 31-Sept. 2.
Entries are due Aug. 18.

• In the Senior Four-Ball Tournament held at Tobacco Road Golf Club in Sanford, the team of Mallory McDaniel-David Bogedain shot 71 to tie for seventh in the A Flight.
In the Southeast Regional in Asheboro, host Randolph County crushed Georgia champion Rockdale 10-0.
North Carolina champ Wilmington beat S.C. champ Irmo-Chapin 6-3.
