SPENCER — A Salisbury man was charged after his pickup collided with a car in a Wednesday afternoon crash on Long Ferry Road.
Pedro Serrano, 31, of Long Ferry Road, was turning out of Five Row Street, he said, when his 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 hydroplaned, sending him across the center lane and into the path of an oncoming car He attributed the crash to the heavy rain. The collision happened at 6:35 p.m.
Spencer Police charged Serrano with driving while impaired, not having an operator’s license and exceeding safe speed for conditions.
Serrano had no injuries and was wearing a seat belt. His passenger, George Locklear, 47, of Sawdust Trail, Salisbury, was also wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
Katherine Robertson, 58, of Fourth Street, was traveling on Long Ferry Road in a 2003 Ford Taurus when she was struck head-on. Her son, Daniel Robertson Jr., 23, was a passenger in the vehicle. Both mother and son were wearing their seat belts but received minor injuries. Katherine Robertson was not pinned in the vehicle as earlier reported, but was temporarily trapped. Spencer and Millers Ferry fire departments rescued Katherine Robertson from her vehicle by removing the driver’s side door.
First Sgt. M.N. Brigman, with the Spencer Police Department, said officers were not able to determine if the weather played a role in crash. It is clear, Brigman said, the pickup crossed the center line and crashed into the Taurus. Serrano was traveling 40 mph in a 35 mph speed zone.
