CHINA GROVE — An issue over landscaping could hold up a rezoning decision on property formerly owned by Tuscarora Yarns. Local businessowner Jesse Link bought the old mill office and changing the zoning would exempt him from certain landscaping requirements. A public hearing is set Tuesday during the China Grove town board meeting when residents and other property owners will get a chance to voice their opinions on the rezoning request.
Link owns South End barber shop and has been working to move the shop from its current location on South Main Street, where is has been for 64 years, to a half-acre site at 404 N. Main St. If the zoning changed, the landscaping requirements would also change.
The site is zoned light industrial and Link has requested it be rezoned to commercial business. Five months ago, Link submitted a minor site plan to the planning board for a parking lot expansion, which he later revised to meet minimum requirements.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the China Grove fire station, 333 N. Main St.
