East Spencer, West Rowan Lunch Club to hold MLK events

The Town of East Spencer will have a march and commemorative program Saturday honoring the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The march begins at 1 p.m. on Robins Circle, off Long Street in East Spencer, near the old Dunbar Schools. The community is encouraged to participate. Participants will gather at 1 p.m. in the Southern City Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church parking lot, at 102 Robin Circle. The march is 1.4 miles and will end at the Northside Economic Development center, at 729 N. Long St.
Long Street will be closed to traffic from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. for the march and traffic will be detoured off Long Street during this time.
The program will take place after the march at Northside Economic Development Center at 2 p.m. The Rev. George Jackson will be the featured speaker for the program.

The West Rowan Lunch Club will hold its Martin Luther King Observance Jan. 28 at 11:15 a.m. at Third Creed AME Zion Church, 415 E. Main Street, Cleveland. The Rev. Rudolph Cornelius is the guest speaker. Cornelius is a native of Cleveland and pastor of Zion Wesley A. M. E. Zion Church in Troutman. He is a graduate of West Rowan High School and Livingstone College. Cornelius is married to Ernestine Avery Cornelius, also a native of Cleveland. His mother, Alberta Cornelius and his mother-in-law, Ruth Avery are both regular attendees at the Lunch Club.
The Lunch Club, for senior citizens meets at Third Creek AME Zion Church from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., daily. The Lunch Club is open to all seniors in the surrounding communities.
