KANNAPOLIS — Kannapolis Fire Department responds to an early morning Athens Street house fire and rescue a person from a late night Nob Hill Drive mobile home fire on Sunday.
The Kannapolis Fire Department responded to the 7:10 a.m. structure fire at 5104 Athens Street. When officials arrived they saw a moderate amount of smoke and fire coming from an outside wall, a statement said.
Crews quickly entered and attacked the fire, which had escaped through cracks in the chimney, and extended out into the walls of the home and the attic. Firefighters extinguished the fire and removed smoke from the remainder of the home.
The family had a working smoking alarm, which alerted them to the fire. The investigation continues, but it appears a faulty chimney was the cause of the fire, the statement said.
Odell Fire and Enochville Fire departments assisted in response to the fire, as well as Cabarrus County EMS and the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary housing. No injuries were reported.

The Kannapolis Fire Department was called to a working fire at 9 p.m., at 4600 Nob Hill Drive. When firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a single-wide mobile home.
Someone was inside the home when firefighters arrived. Fire crews were able to get inside through the back of the home where they found an unresponsive victim.
The victim was quickly removed from the home and medical care was immediately given, the statement said.
Other responding fire crews entered the home to extinguish the fire and check for other victims.
No other injuries were reported from the fire. The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast via the Cabarrus County EMS.
The home had significant heat and smoke damage. Kannapolis Police Department is investigating the incident.
