Think the girls basketball teams from North Rowan and North Moore are developing a rivalry?

In their first meeting of the season in Spencer, North Rowan won on a last-second shot.

On Tuesday night in Robbins, it took a free throw from Aliyah Farmer to tie the game with three seconds remaining in regulation and the Cavaliers controlled the overtime to win an 85-81 thriller.

It ruined a 46-point performance from North Moore’s Jalyn Davis. She has 78 points in two games against the Cavs. She also has two losses.

“It is a pretty even matchup,” said North coach Brian Lytton. “I knew it was going to be close.”

Down 78-77, North threw a long pass to Farmer, who was fouled. She converted one of two to force an extra period.

Demeria Robinson got North (7-6, 7-2) off to a good start in overtime with a layup. Robinson and Special Washington hit key free throws down the stretch to seal it.

“It gives us confidence to know we can win these close games,” Lytton said of his third-place team.

Washington led the Cavs with 25 points, while Robinson scored 15, Fredejah Royer 13 and Taylor Sells 11.

Royer hit three 3s in helping North tie the school record for points. The Cavs also scored 85 in 2006 against Central Davidson.

• South Davidson remained unbeaten in the Yadkin Valley Conference with a 64-44 win over Albemarle on Tuesday.

Larsen Sigmon had 26 for the Wildcats (12-2, 9-0) while Madi Beeson added 16.

• Former North Rowan star Megan Honeycutt, who played at UNC Greensboro, is now coaching the Brookland-Cayce High team in Columbia, S.C.

Prep boys basketball
It was the longest ride of the year after the longest layoff for the North Rowan boys Tuesday night so they came out a little sluggish.

And the YVC-leading Cavs still won 56-30.

“North Moore’s a good team,” praised North coach Andrew Mitchell. They had a good scouting report on us. They played really hard.”

A 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter put North (13-3, 9-0) up only 11-8.

But a 22-8 run in the second quarter gave the Cavs some breathing room, and they coasted home.

Oshon West led North with 14 points, while Malik Ford added 13 and Michael Bowman 10.

• Davie came within inches of tying its game with Reagan and forcing overtime, but instead it was beaten by Howard West’s Raiders 81-78.

After two free throws by Rashad Roberts put Reagan up by three points with 13 seconds remaining, Davie called timeout. Coach Mike Absher couldn’t turn to N.C. State-bound twins Caleb and Cody Martin, both of whom had fouled out.

“We executed the play perfectly,” Absher said of Peyton Sell’s 3-point try, which was just off the mark.

The loss left Davie 1-2 in the CPC.

• Albemarle got 13 points from Andre Ridenhour and routed South Davidson 86-38 to stay one game back of North Rowan in the YVC.

College basketball
Catawba is at home for a SAC doubleheader tonight against Mars Hill at 6 p.m., while Livingstone is at home for a CIAA doubleheader against Fayetteville State that starts at 5:30 p.m.

DaQuondra Cuthbertson (North Rowan) is a member of the Fayetteville State women’s team.

On Saturday, Livingstone is at home against J.C. Smith, while Catawba is at Carson-Newman.

• Wingate is at Anderson tonight. Both men’s teams are 6-0 in the SAC.

Dogfight results from Corbin Hills:

In Flight 1, Steve Gegorek, Randy Bingham, Gary Powers, Rex Davis shot 139 for first, and Jerry Allman, Jeff Holshouser, Bob Whitley and Tim Collins shot 141 for second.

In Flight 2, Dale Plummer, Treva Honeycutt, Doug Thomas and Bill Raymer shot 159 for first, and David Johnston, Ronnie Thompson, Mike Vickers and Seth Bennett shot 160 for second place.

Skins winners were Jeff Holshouser (2), Gary Powers (3), Curt Thomas (3), David Dorsett (3), Jerry Allman (2) and Stan Honeycutt (3).

North Hills hoops
The North Hills girls basketball team beat the PCCS Patriots 51-9.

Olivia Houghton scored nine points for the Eagles, while Natalie Whicker and Madison Link each had eight.

Girls
Erwin 35, Knox 27
Erwin’s second-seeded girls (14-2) defeated No. 3 Knox at the China Grove gym.

Breya Philpot paced the Eagles with 10 points and 16 rebounds. Micah Furr had eight points and four steals. Destiny Jackson scored five points. Sara Gunter, Courtney Wagner and Ashlyn Mills added four points each. Wagner and Gunter had six and five rebounds, respectively, and Mills contributed four assists.

Knox (13-3) was led by Tyzarea Alexander with 10 points. Niah Spratt and Chevy Blaire added six points apiece. The Trojans played without injured starter Kiilantra Mashore.

Mooresville 38, North 32
Mooresville’s top-seeded girls (14-2) defeated No. 4 North Rowan at the Southeast gym.

The Red Imps got balanced scoring with Sara Vanhoy and Carlee Brawley getting 10 points apiece and Sehrena Hull adding eight points.

North Rowan (9-7), which rallied to within one point in the final quarter, was paced by Priscilla Oglesby and Brianna White with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Boys
Knox 56, West 33
The third-seeded Knox boys (12-4) broke open a close game in the third quarter and topped No. 2 West Rowanat China Grove.

Knox led 28-24 starting the second half. The fast-breaking Trojans went on a 12-2 run to start the third quarter, getting four points from Tre Oates and three from Paris Hillie. Knox went on to outscore the Bulldogs 28-9 in the second half.

Hillie led the way with 19 points, while Alonzo Sirleaf and Shaleek Williams added 14 and 12, respectively. Williams made three 3-pointers.

West (11-5) was led by Kortez Weeks and Jovon Quarles with six points each. Ed Blackwell and Rodney Howell added five points apiece.

Mooresville 54, North 41
Mooresville’s boys (16-0) topped No. 4 North Rowanat Southeast. Jay Davis and Noah Allen led the Red Imps. Individual scoring totals were not available last night. North finished 9-7.

The Erwin and Mooresville girls meet at 4:30 p.m. today for the title at China Grove in a rematch of the 2012 seventh-grade finals won by Mooresville. The Knox and Mooresville boys tangle at 6 p.m. in a rematch of the seventh-grade title game won by the Red Imps. last year.
