Kannapolis schools will release early Friday due to weather forecasts, no decision from Rowan

The Kannapolis City School System plans to dismiss class three hours early Friday.
“The forecast calls for winter precipitation starting around noon and we want everyone to get home safely,” a district official posted on the school system’s Facebook wall.
Kannapolis Intermediate, Kannapolis Middle and McKnight Child Development center will release at 11 a.m.
The elementary schools will dismiss at 11:40 a.m. and A.L. Brown High School will let out at 12:25 p.m.
Parents are being notified about the early release through an ConnectEd telephone message.
Rita Foil, spokeswoman for the Rowan-Salisbury School System, said school is set to go on as usual Friday.
“There hasn’t been a decision made yet,” she said. “We are watching the weather.”
The National Weather Service expects Rowan County to get a wintry mix Friday.
Meteorologist John Tomko said freezing rain is expected to pour into the area around daybreak Friday.
Precipitation will then change into snow briefly Friday morning, he said.
Salisbury is expected to see a high of 32 degrees Friday and a low of 24 Friday night.
