Livingstone home vs. CIAA rival Golden Bulls

Livingstone’s basketball teams will play at Trent Gym tonight against CIAA rival Johnson C. Smith.
The women’s game starts the doubleheader at 5:30 p.m.
Livingstone’s strong men’s team is 14-3 overall, 6-2 in the CIAA and 2-0 in the Southern Division. Divisional play is the key factor in seeding the CIAA tournament.
J.C. Smith’s men enter the game 12-6 overall, 5-3 in the league and 1-1 in divisional play.
Livingstone’s women are 7-10, but they are coming off a big upset of Fayetteville State in their last outing.
The LC women are 3-5 in the league and 1-1 in the division.
• Catawba’s teams are on the road tonight at Carson-Newman.
Catawba’s men (5-10, 2-5) will look for an upset of a squad that they lost two close games to last season.
Carson-Newman’s men are playing well and will enter the game at Holt Fieldhouse with an 11-4 overall record and a 4-3 SAC mark.
Post man Tyrece Little leads the Indians with 15 points and nearly eight rebounds per contest. Freshman guard Elon Edwards averages 13.9 points. Lee Martin averages 12.9 points and 7.1 boards.
The women’s game should be a tussle. Catawba and Carson-Newman both are 4-3 in the SAC and are part of a tie for fourth place.
• Pfeiffer’s men’s team lost 64-51 to Coker in Merner Gym on Thursday.
Josh Humphrey had another strong game with 22 points and seven rebounds for the Falcons (3-14, 1-9).
Julian Nelson scored 17 for the Cobras, who are 8-8 overall and 5-5 in Conference Carolinas action.
• Pfeiffer’s women are having a strong season and beat Coker 83-54.
Carter Williams scored a career-best 19 points for the Falcons (12-3, 7-3).
Christina Harvey had 18, Jodie Lemons scored 17, and Brittany Cox accounted for 15.
Autumn Lau scored 15 for Coker (10-7, 6-5).

Prep wrestling
West Rowan beat Statesville 51-27 in an NPC match on Thursday.

Prep hoops
Area games scheduled for Friday obviously were postponed.
Salisbury will make up its game at Thomasville on Jan. 30.
West Rowan will make up its home game with Statesville on Feb. 6.
A.L. Brown will make up its home game with Robinson on Feb. 13.
Other games rescheduled for Jan. 30 are West Rowan at Carson and Statesville at East Rowan.
The Salisbury at North Rowan varsity games are still scheduled for tonight at North. North will make the call on that one today.
The Salisbury-North jayvee games won’t be played.

Prep swimming
Top finishers in each event in the NPC swim meet are listed in today’s Scoreboard.
The Rowan County Meet that was scheduled for Friday won’t be rescheduled.

Carolina Phenoms
The Carolina Phenoms are looking for boys and girls in grades 3-8 who want to participate on development and travel basketball teams.

7th-grade hoops
Southeast’s boys won 43-24 against West Rowan.
Jailen Williams was the floor general for the Patriots and scored 13 points.
Jamario Hairston had 12 points.
Caleb Mauldin had seven points and 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Sacred Heart hoops
Sacred Heart’s jayvee boys won 37-24 at St. Mark.
Patrick Taylor’s career-high 14 points sparked the Dolphins.
Eric Turnbull had seven points and 10 rebounds.
Jack Fisher had six points, pull down 11 rebounds and handed out eight assists.
Josh Faulkner, Blaine Shelton and Bill Fisher were defensive stalwarts.
