SALISBURY — Allison Leigh Martin walked out of Georgia State Prison Wednesday and got on a bus to jail.
Rowan County authorities have sought the 35-year-old Martin since 2010, when investigators said she plagued local pharmacies, posing as an employee of various doctors and racking up dozens of prescription pills.
When she walked out of Lee Arrendale Correctional in Alto, Ga. — following a 28-month stint for attempting to obtain drugs in 2010 — more officers were waiting.
Martin was immediately taken by a prisoners’ bus to Salisbury. She was charged with 44 felony offenses.
Martin was an original member of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted list.
The 35-year-old led investigators on a trail of fake hydrocodone prescriptions from July 2007 to June 2008, according to warrants obtained by the Post.
Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Capt. John Sifford said detectives issued warrants for Martin shortly before she was arrested in Augusta, Ga.
“It’s estimated she obtained more than 50 fraudulent prescriptions,”?Sifford said.
Martin served as a pharmacy tech at a former Eckerds drug store, Sifford said. About five years after she left, the fake prescriptions began.
“It appears she was familiar with the common practice of how to do it,”?Sifford said.
Martin also is accused of using variations of friends’ names when getting prescriptions filled.
Martin remained in Rowan County jail Thursday under a $250,000 bond.
She was charged with 22 counts of felony trafficking heroin or opium and 22 counts of felony obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or forgery.
