CHARLOTTE (AP) — North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory is throwing plans to secure state money for renovations to the home of the Carolina Panthers for a loss.
The Charlotte Observer reports that the former Charlotte mayor said Monday that there’s no state money to help offset the Carolina Panthers’ stadium renovation project, estimated at between $261 and $297 million.
Panthers president Danny Morrison says he remains optimistic the team will receive public money to help upgrade 17-year-old Bank of America Stadium.
Morrison said in a statement Monday that he and owner Jerry Richardson met “multiple times” with state officials. He said the officials have always been supportive of their efforts and indicated the importance of the Panthers to state and the city. He said he hoped those assurances translate into support.
