Catawba’s men’s basketball team ended the season on Wednesday with an 80-72 loss at Anderson in the first round of the SAC tournament.

Tyrece Little had 23 points an 11 rebounds for the seventh-seeded Indians (10-17). Lee Martin closed his career with a fine game — 21 points and eight rebounds.

Martin shot 8-for-14 and made four 3-pointers.

Anderson had runs of 8-0 and 12-2 to take a 40-25 halftime lead ans stayed in control in the second half.

Myson Jones scored 21 to lead No. 2 seed Anderson (19-8). Chandler Hash and Bo Holston scored 16 each.

Anderson will play Wingate in a Saturday semifinal in Greenville, S.C.

SAC basketball

Catawba sophomore Chloe Bully and junior Antoinette McPhail were named to the All-SAC women’s first team. Anderson’s Alissa Diaz was named SAC Player of the Year. Anderson’s Jim Brunelli was named SAC Coach of the Year.

• Catawba’s Tyrece Little was a second-team All-SAC pick on the men’s team.

Catawba’s Elon Edwards made the All-SAC Freshman team. Carson-Newman’s Antoine Davis was named SAC Player of the Year. Carson-Neman’s Chuck Benson was named SAC Coach of the Year.

Pfeiffer basketball

Pfeiffer’s women’s basketball team won in the first round of the Conference Carolinas tournament on Wednesday,

The third-seeded Falcons (23-5) beat Queens 75-59.

Christina Harvey had 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Jodie Lemons had 15 points and 21 rebounds.

Pfeiffer is at No. 2 Barton on Friday.

Catawba baseball

Catawba’s baseball team won 7-4 at USC Aiken on Wednesday in a battle of ranked teams.

Will Johnson (East Rowan) earned his first career win for the Indians. Ross Whitley pitched three scoreless innings, and freshman Sean Grant fired two.

Chris Dula and Paul Kronenfeld had two hits each for the 25th-ranked Indians (14-5). Craig Brooks drove in two runs.

USC Aiken, ranked sixth, fell to 14-3.

Prep baseball

South Rowan’s baseball team stayed unbeaten with a 9-5 NPC win against West Iredell on Wednesday.

A decision was made to move the game to South because of wet field conditions at West Iredell.

South had two huge innings, a four-run third to get out of a 3-0 hole and a five-run fifth that decided the game.

Eric Tyler had the biggest offensive game of his career. The East Carolina signee had a three-run homer and a three-run double.

Dillon Parker (2-0) pitched six strong innings with one earned run and seven strikeouts. Billy Winecoff finished up.Parker also had a good day at the plate with two hits.

Eric Stowe had two hits.

Nathan Lambert and Drew Glenn made diving catches in the outfield, and Glenn also threw out a runner at home.

“We kicked it around early and dug a hole,” South coach Thad Chrismon said. “But I was proud of the way we stayed together and battled back.”

South hasn’t jumped out of the gate 3-0 since 2008.

South is at home against West Rowan Friday.

• West Rowan beat Mount Tabor 5-3 in Mount Ulla on Wednesday and is off to its first 4-0 start since 2004.

Justin Evans (2-0) pitched six innings and fanned six for the win. Nick Collins worked the seventh for the save.

Collins, Harrison Baucom, Taylor Garczynski and Hunter Teeter provided the offense with two hits each.

Garczynski doubled and homered. Collins doubled twice and knocked in two runs.

West is making up an NPC game at Statesville today.

• East Rowan lost 9-1 to 4A power Charlotte Providence in a non-conference game.

Jayvee baseball

South Rowan pounded out 14 hits and got strong pitching from Burke Fulcher in a 9-0 win against West Iredell on Wednesday.

Prep softball

South Rowan’s softball team beat Mooresville 6-3 in a game moved to South because of field conditions at Mooresville.

Caitlin Waters, Katherine Starnes and Caroline Hubbard had two hits each.

Waters scored three runs. Starnes and Beth Ann Martin drove in two runs each.

Waters had a triple. Hubbard had a double.

Logan Lowery (2-0) pitched a complete game for the Raiders (3-0). South is at home against West Iredell today.

Prep soccer

West Rowan’s girls won 4-1 against West Iredell on Wednesday in an NPC game.

Toni Lucente had three assists.

The Warriors led 1-0 at halftime.

Mariah Coleman scored the tying goal. Kayla Boley scored the go-ahead goal off a Lucente corner kick.

With the Warriors playing one girl down, the Falcons added goals by Madison Muire and Josie Heglar.

•Salisbury’s girls lost 4-1 to Davie on Wednesday.

Kate Grant scored the Salisbury goal. Kristen Harmon and Emma Labovitz played well for the Hornets (2-2).

Salisbury hosts Ledford tonight.

• East Rowan lost to Statesville 3-1 in NPC play on Wednesday.

Lindsay Gobble scored East’s goal on an assist from Amber Ritchie. Kennedy Lambert made 10 saves for the Mustangs in a cold, windy game.

• Carson edged South Rowan 1-0 in NPC action.

Prep tennis

South Rowan’s tennis team lost 5-4 to West Iredell.

Luke Rary, Alex Hopkins and Eddie Chaves picked up singles wins for the Raiders.

Jacob Ouellette-Lucas Kincaid took a doubles match.

Catawba men’s lacrosse

John Scheich and Matt Symes scored two goals each for Catawba (2-3) in a 12-8 loss to St. Leo on Wednesday.

Women’s lacrosse

Catawba (1-4) rolled to a 19-4 win against Siena Heights on Wednesday. Ebony Mills, Chelsey Bauer and Merdedith Jones scored four goals each.

Catawba softball

Catawba and Augusta State split a doubleheader in Augusta, Ga., on Wednesday.

Catawba won 3-1 before losing the nightcap 9-5.

Carley Tysinger (12-1) pitched the opener for the Indians (17-7). She pitched a two-hitter and fanned seven. Emily D. Huneycutt homered twice for Catawba in the nightcap.

Local golf

In the eGolf Tour’s Irish Creek Classic, first-round play was suspended by darkness on Wednesday with 35 players still on the course.

Ryan Nelson shot 64. Will Collins shot 72. Frank Adams III shot 73.

7th-grade boys hoops

Erwin’s boys beat North Rowan 55-35.

Josh Ellis, Cole Perry and Bryson Sprinkle scored 12 points each for the Eagles (8-5). Trevor Scruggs scored 10.

Ellis had 14 rebounds and five steals. Perry had four assists. Sprinkle had four steals. Will Brown grabbed 10 rebounds.
