Terry third in Ironman event

Salisbury’s Christian Terry placed third in his age group at the Bone Island Ironman Triathlon held in Key West, Fla., earlier this month.
Terry swam a 2.4-mile course in 1 hour, 12 seconds, finished a 112-mile bike course in 7 hours, 13 seconds, and ran a marathon in 5 hours, 55 seconds.
Terry is a sophomore at UNC Wilmington. He has competed in triathlons since age 9 and competes for UNCW’s triathlon team. This was his first ironman triathlon.
Seager to be honored
Northwest Cabarrus baseball coach Joe Hubbard announced plans to retire the jersey of former Trojan Kyle Seager at halftime of tonight’s Northwest-Mount Pleasant boys game.
Seager, 25, starred for NWC, the Kannapolis American Legion team and UNC before becoming a pro. He batted .259 with 20 homers and 86 RBIs as the third baseman for the Seattle Mariners in 2012. He led the Mariners in homers and RBIs.
Salisbury tennis champs
Salisbury’s girls tennis 2A state champs will be honored between games of tonight’s CCC hoops doubleheader with East Davidson.

Salisbury Academy’s varsity boys beat Statesville Christian 47-38.
Carter Cook led the Jaguars (6-6, 5-4) with 14 points. Andrew Kalogeromitros scored 12. Marcus Corry stuffed the stat sheet again with 11 points, five assists and five steals. Mike Hughes led the rebounding. Jaelen McClellan and Ben Coulter were defensive standouts for coach Ken Clarke’s team.
• Salisbury Academy’s varsity girls beat Statesville Christian 23-16.
Juliana Anderson had six points and six steals. Jenny Kribbs scored eight points. Jordan McCall led the team in assists, and Samantha Pritchard stood out defensively for coach Luke Fisher’s squad. Brian Lee is the assistant coach.

Caleb Mauldin’s 24 points and 12 rebounds led West Rowan Middle’s boys to a 50-37 win against North Rowan Middle.
Owen White chipped in with nine points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs (1-1).
Xavier Haley led the Mavericks with 12 points.
• Erwin’s girls beat Corriher-Lipe 28-19. Sydney Taylor led the Eagles (1-1) with 12 points and five steals. Hollie Harrison had six points and six steals. Caroline Johnson scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds. Anna Shafer had seven boards.
Corriher-Lipe (1-1) was led by Taylor Wiggins with 10 points. Jaylee Rollins scored five for the Yellow Jackets.
• Erwin’s boys beat Corriher-Lipe 46-35. Trevor Scruggs scored 12 points for the Eagles, while Cole Perry had 10 points and led in assists. Josh Ellis scored eight points. Bryson Sprinkle had seven, and William Brown added five.
Connor Childers scored nine to lead the Yellow Jackets (0-2). Daniel Huffman scored seven, and Isaiah Wade and David Miller added six apiece.
